Vicky Colombet.
Artist in Residence at Napeague
Medium: Painting, Drawing, Photography
Year: Ongoing
American-French artist Vicky Colombet creates work that explores the textures of the natural world, which become both abstract and familiar through her intuitive and deeply personal process. Colombet writes of her own work: “[I am] trying to create a visual catalyst that prompts our thinking about places and how we imagine them.”
At Napeague, she is working across drawing, painting, and photography. Her sketches, partially inspired by Ann de Forest’s walks and writings, depict various landscapes within Napeague. These drawings are close readings of the environment, capturing the textures of life within the diverse habitats that make up the area.
Colombet is also using photography to explore the site, creating images in her nighttime series that move between the abstract and the figurative.
